This project included the design of a retarding basin and wetland system for The Dunes development in Torquay. The retarding basin functional and detailed design included several software packages including RORB for calculations and AutoCAD to produce the construction issue drawings. The idea of the retarding basin was to make certain that the modified catchment could not adversely impact the down stream water systems. The wetland was designed according to Melbourne Water’s Deemed to Comply Checklist and was utilised to remove nutrients from the stormwater. MUSIC modelling was undertaken to ensure the removal of gross pollutants, nitrogen, phosphorous and suspended solids is appropriately achieved.
Further to the engineering design, Fisher & Fisher were engaged to undertake the landscaping elements of the retarding basin and wetland system. A landscape architectural design was completed and notably included a timber viewing platform, decorative and functional gabion baskets as well as a comprehensive planting schedule. As you can see, 3D rendering was also undertaken to provide the client with a great opportunity to fully appreciate the design before moving into the construction phase.
